Statement of Need

NJSSA members are not aware of communication techniques to build trusting relationships with patients and families, strategies to minimize postoperative delirium and cognitive decline and overall patient safety. 

Learning Objectives

By completing this program participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate currently available technologies to quantify nociception
  • Identify strategies to minimize postoperative neurocognitive disorders
  • Comprehend the foundational nature of patient safety
  • Develop familiarity with P.R.O.G.R.A.M. method of effective and compassionate communication
  • Recognize the various types of difficult conversations including breaking bad news, conflict resolution and disclosing medical errors
