  • Resident E-Poster Abstracts Due January 12th!

  • Dr. John Azzariti Elected to the NJ General Assembly

    Dr. Azzariti joins incumbents Senator Holly Schepisi and Assemblyman Robert Auth in NJ’s 39th Legislative District. Dr. Azzariti is an active Board member and Past-President of NJSSA, and serves as the ASA Alternate Director. He is currently the Associate Director for the Department of Anesthesiology at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey. He has advocated extensively at the state and federal level for over a decade on patient safety, scope of practice, surprise medical billing and COVID-19 related physician protections, along with many other issues important to healthcare providers and the profession. We are excited to have a physician anesthesiologist, especially Dr. John Azzariti, in the NJ Legislature as he will be incredibly valuable in discussions and considering legislation surrounding physician-led care, patient safety and several other important issues our profession faces.
  • Don't Remove the Guardians From NJ Operating Rooms

    Every few years, New Jersey is faced with the monumental question of whether or not to authorize certified registered nurse anesthetists — advanced practice nurses — who have completed an anesthesia training program, to administer anesthesia to patients without a licensed physician anesthesiologist present. During the pandemic surge, Gov. Phil Murphy issued Executive Order 112, allowing flexibility in how hospitals utilized many healthcare providers, including authorization of CRNAs to administer anesthesia without physician supervision. Despite claims to the contrary, we are not aware of any hospital or ambulatory surgery center that permits a CRNA to administer anesthesia without physician supervision.
